Utilising Alternative Application Configurations in Context- and QoS-Aware Mobile Middleware

چکیده
State-of-the-art dynamic middleware uses information about the environment in order to evaluate alternative configurations of an application and select one according to some criteria. In the context of applications sensitive to Quality of Service, we have identified the need for a platform independent description of configurations that includes non-functional behaviour, and that allows handling of a large number of application configurations. In this paper, we present a modelling principle and a service plan concept, which together represents such a description. The modelling principle and plan concept extend stateof-the-art with i) a model of the alternative configurations that ensure a minimum of reconfiguration steps; ii) a specification that contains information elements of the configuration, dependencies to the environment, and QoS characteristics; and iii) a platform independent specification. In the paper, we also perform a qualitative assessment of our approach, and we describe a proof-ofconcept implementation.

Scenario Description – MobVideo
This technical report describes a scenario with a video streaming application, called Mobile Video (MobVideo), designed for a QoS-aware mobile middleware platform. The middleware manages QoS on behalf of the application, by adapting both the application and middleware services to changes in the system context and resource load. The crux of the proposed solution is to let the mobile middleware d...
متن کاملQoS-aware Mobile Middleware – A Survey
Mobile computing systems have non-functional properties that differ from fixed distributed systems due to the radio and mobile terminal characteristics. Traditional middleware does not manage these non-functional properties. Hence, the middleware must be designed specifically for mobile computing. Existing mobile middleware platforms and state-of-the-art research focus on handling network quali...
متن کاملA Translation System for Enabling Flexible and Efficient Deployment of QoS-Aware Applications in Ubiquitous Environments
Ubiquitous Quality of Service(QoS)-aware applications, such as e-business or multimedia delivery are becoming available anywhere anytime. In the past decade, also QoS-oriented middleware services, assisting QoS-aware applications with different aspects of QoS provisions, have been proposed. Assuming the availability of these middleware services, in this paper, we present the application to midd...
متن کاملQoS-Aware Middleware for Ubiquitous and Heterogeneous Environments
Middleware systems have emerged in recent years to support applications in heterogenous and ubiquitous computing environments. Specifically, future middleware platforms are expected to provide Quality-of-Service (QoS) support, which is required by a new generation of QoS-sensitive applications such as media streaming and e-commerce. This article presents four key aspects of a QoS-aware middlewa...
متن کاملContext Aware Adaptive Service based Dynamic Channel Allocation Approach for Providing an Optimal QoS over MANET
Large variations in network Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of bandwidth, latency and jitter may occur during media transfer over mobile ad-hoc networks. Applications need to adapt their functionality according to dynamic change of their QoS update. This paper proposes an enhanced service based platform to provide adaptive network management services to higher level application layer componen...
